Artist's statement

Noam kisch, ceramic designer and artist

I like to create in the borderline between the design-functional and the artistic-experimental, absorbing inspiration from parallel fields. I grow up in living design and architecture house, something that affected me a lot.

My ceramic art concerns the tension between the planned and the controlled and the natural, unexpected, almost random accidental tendencies of the material process.

In the creative process the material and technology serve me as significant partners, I do not seek complete control, on the contrary. I always have the curiosity to push the properties of the material 'to the edge', to examine them in the process of creating and learning in an adventure of trial and error with fire and clay.

Most of my artwork is created from porcelain. The contrast between the soft, delicate, whitish and fluid properties of the working process opposed to its strength and stiffness after firing attracts me. I desire to add movement and rhythm to my objects, and to give the finished 'frozen' ceramic material a more organic, dynamic and lively feel.
